The Elusive Love Story of a Coder

I, Manish Mehta, am a coder. While it sounds cool, it can be terribly boring as I stare at my laptop screen day after day, stuck in a cubby hole, with only zeroes and dashes for company.

Do I have a love life? Are you kidding me? I’m still finding one!

Seated at a desk from 9–5, six days a week, there’s little opportunity to go out and meet someone new.

Dating seems like a remote possibility for those trapped in offices… And one can’t even get too friendly with women at the workplace, because you don’t want it to get misconstrued.

So, I decided to download dating apps like Tinder, Happn, and Truly Madly. I thought, ‘If not love, at least I’ll find someone to go get a beer with, or just see a movie.’ So I got started — created a profile, chose my best pictures, and tried to be creative about describing myself. Dating is almost like arranged marriages nowadays — You have to put on your best suit!

Soon the conversations began… I chatted with some girls, met a few, but no one seemed to be on the same wavelength. What’s worse, some people in my office got to know about me being on the dating apps… It was embarrassing, to say the least.

That’s when I realised just how important it is for a guy to protect his privacy too. Because professionally you don’t want to be seen as someone frivolous, who is spending time on dating apps… And, you definitely don’t want to look like a ‘loser’, and be at the centre of all the jokes, for something as harmless as dating?

That’s when I did some more research on dating apps, and discovered Woo. My friend also had a good experience with it, and told me it has some good features that help you find someone compatible.

While setting up my profile on Woo, I got a good response from their customer service team. They helped me with all the details needed to be filled in, and with the tag search feature I could to find a better match.

Though Woo is more in favour of women, as it allows only her to call you from one of its features call Woo Phone and not vice-versa, I’m grateful as the feature at least gives you the opportunity to speak with her on the phone (without having her number). You can then decide if you want to meet her or not. Another plus of the feature — if she calls you first, you know she is interested in you! Isn’t that just a gamer changer!

I haven’t yet found my ‘dream girl’, so to speak. But, thanks to Woo, my weekends are now spent meeting interesting women, and basically understanding ‘what women want’. I no longer spend that extra hour in office anymore; I simply scoot and go to the nearest coffee shop to explore the possibilities of finding new love.

Dating is not easy — and ever so confusing for both men and women — but with apps like Woo whose algorithms bring you to the closest match, the chances of meeting the ‘right one’ are just getting better.

If you too are looking for a dating app, I would say try Woo, mainly because it has fairly accurate matchmaking filters.

To top it all, they answer your queries 24/7, so it’s essentially one of the best user experiences you can have.
